Benjamin Day, ‘Teaching Australian Foreign Policy: Introduction to the Special Section’, Australian Journal of International Affairs, online, 6 November 2019: 1-3.

At precisely the time Australia faces the most challenging environment in which to execute its foreign policy in decades, we see a decline of Australian foreign policy (AFP) as a subject for serious academic specialisation, and as a subject taught in our universities. A desire to account for this decline, and to consider strategies to reverse it, was the rationale for bringing together a group of scholars, practitioners, and experienced observers of AFP to participate in the ‘Australian Foreign Policy Studies Forum’ in March 2019 at the Australian National University (ANU). The six essays forming this special section originate from one of the sessions comprising the Forum — a panel discussion on teaching foreign policy in Australia.
